Prescription and Non-Prescription Drug Drop Box
A non-prescription and prescription drop box is located in the Kanabec County Jail Lobby at 100 S. Vine St., Mora, MN and provides secure access 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
There are many benefits to having a local prescription drug drop box including keeping narcotics off the street, away from children, as well as protecting our environment and water supply.
Registration or sign-in is not required. Residents will be buzzed in and can simply place their unused prescriptions into the drop box.
The drop box should not be used for sharps, which includes needles, lancets, and syringes. For more information the proper disposal of sharps click on this link for Safe Disposal Options for Needles and Syringes.
Since 2012, over 6,400 pounds of unused, unwanted medication have been collected and properly disposed of in Kanabec County!

Deterra Drug Disposal
The Deterra Drug Disposal System is a safe alternative to the Drug Drop Box. The Deterra Drug Disposal product provides a safe, convenient way to deactivate unused or expired medications at home. By using activated carbon technology, Deterra makes medications ineffective and safe for disposal in household trash. Safe drug disposal helps to prevent accidental poisoning, prescription drug misuse, and environmental contamination that can occur when medications are incorrectly stored or discarded. Proper disposal protects families, communities, and the environment while reducing the risk of medications falling into the wrong hands.

Locked Bags for Cannabis, Commercial Tobacco, and other substances
We offer free locking bags that are available to community members to support safe storage practices. Safe storage is an important strategy that helps reduce the risk of accidental ingestion by children and pets while also limiting access for curious teens. These locked bags are designed for the secure storage of substances such as prescription medications, kratom, commercial tobacco products, and cannabis products.
